Union College Early Music Ensemble to perform
Directed by Dianne McMullen, Professor of Music and College Organist, the five groups that comprise the Union College Early Music Ensemble this term will perform a concert of music from the fifteenth through the eighteenth centuries. Students will perform music by Telemann, Sammartini, Albinoni, Stamitz, Ockeghem, and others on recorder, flute, oboe, violin, viola, cello, and harpsichord. The concert takes place this Saturday, Nov. 12, at 1 p.m. in Emerson Auditorium at Taylor Music Center. It is free and open to the public.
Union College Choir performs Pergolesi and more
The Union College Choir will perform music by Weelkes, Mozart, Pergolesi, and others on Monday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m. at Memorial Chapel. Directed by Dianne McMullen, Professor of Music and College Organist, the Choir is preparing for a tour to Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic during Spring Break. There they will perform at Salzburg Cathedral, Melk Abbey, St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna, and Church of Our Lady Tyn in Prague. The concert on Monday is filled with uplifting and beautiful music. The concert is free and open to the public.
Student Recital
The Department of Music is hosting a student recital featuring some of the students who have taken lessons this term. Performing on the recital are Lisa Gu, Alexander Heywood, Jacob Zipkin on the violin, Zihan He on the pedal harpsichord (a new instrument donated to the College by Dr. David Falk), Xiaoxian Wang on the harpsichord, Cameron Yang on the alto saxophone, Mengjia Qi and Nathan Gillespie on the piano, and vocalists Jonathan Covey and Nathan Oasis. The recital also includes the premiere of a work by Lynn Guo. The student recital takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 5 p.m. in Emerson Auditorium at Taylor Music Center. It is free and open to the public.
