Major: Political Science and Latin American and Caribbean Studies

Activities: AOP political science tutor, Model UN teaching assistant, Latin American Student Organization president, Spanish Club, African Student Association; French Club; terms away to Washington, D.C., Brazil, Senegal and Argentina

Hometown: Medford, Ore.

Assignment: Malaysia

Host country engagement: In addition to teaching English, he’ll use skills learned through the Future Farmers of America in order to build a community garden, which will serve as a community bonding exercise open to anyone in the community to use.

Plans after Fulbright: Attend graduate school focusing on foreign affairs, then pursuing a career working for NGOs in the international development sector.

Victoria Grandel '19

Major: Chinese and Political Science

Activities: Language Center Chinese mentor, URBAN Magazine editor-in-chief, Black Student Union, Women’s Union; terms away to China and Louisiana Gulf Coast

Hometown: Lynn, Mass.

Assignment: Taiwan

Host country engagement: Engage with communities through service. Her former experiences volunteering as a mentor, home builder and community engagement have informed her that service a great way to connect to your greater community.

Plans after Fulbright: Create a non-profit organization geared towards bringing the global education inequality gap.

Gillian Singer '19

Gillian Singer

Major: Spanish and Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies

Activities: Women’s Union president; Title IX ambassador; Girls on the Run; Admissions senior intern and tour guide; Spain term abroad

Hometown: Minneapolis, Minn.

Assignment: Spain

Host country engagement: Create programming for young students focusing on empowerment and confidence development and encourage older students to serve as program mentors.

Plans after Fulbright: Pursue a master’s degree in public health with a concentration in sex, sexuality and reproductive health to later work in NGO’s and nonprofits supporting global communities with maternal health disparities.
