Dylan Klure, assistant professor of biology, co-authored "Large-scale surveys of woodrats (Neotoma spp.) reveal constraints of diet breadth in herbivorous mammals" in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. This research characterized the diets of 13 species of woodrats from 50 locations across the USA and provides insight into the factors that drive the foraging decisions of herbivores, furthering our understanding of how biological communities are structured, and how they respond to environmental change.
Jennifer Fredricks, professor of psychology, co-edited the book, "Sociocultural Perspectives on Student Engagement: Theory, Research, and Practice" (Emerald Publishing), with colleagues Gregory Arief Liem and Zi Yang Wong at the National Institute of Education in Singapore.
Brianne Brinker, assistant athletic director, is the author of a new memoir, “Skating Out of the Vault: A Trans Woman's Escape from the Game of Masculinity.”
Brinker shares her personal journey from a five-year-old boy who thought she was a girl through her life as a Division I men’s hockey player, coach, athletic administrator, a husband and father of two. Brinker explains the process of her true self, surviving in a self-imposed metaphoric vault to hide in while she acted as another person throughout.
“More than a coming out story, I have woven messages throughout on the feelings of someone hiding, of someone who gets the opportunity to become their true self, and how friends, colleagues, and loved ones can make a significant difference in the life of a marginalized person,” Brinker said. “The positive role Union College played in my journey is prominently detailed.” Brinker joined Union in 2004.
