An announcement of a new president was the most popular story on Union’s news site and multiple social media accounts in 2025.
The top item was a February story in which Elizabeth Kiss was named the 20th president of Union. She would take over for David Harris on July 1. Harris stepped down after seven years as president.
A March story detailing a key part of the College’s ambitious Engineering and Computer Science Initiative that includes the addition of a new building and renovations to Butterfield Hall and other spaces, was the second most popular story.
The third most read story was the ribbon-cutting in August of a new arena for the men’s and women’s Division I hockey teams at nearby Mohawk Harbor.
Rounding out the top five was a June story introducing the valedictorians for the Class of 2025 and a story in May on the Prize Day winners.
The rest of the top 10 included a June story about Commencement; a July story about summer research projects; the announcement in March of Emmy Award-winning writer Joanna Stern ‘06 as the featured speaker at Commencement; profiles in June of the co-salutatorians of the Class of 2025; and a June profile of the student speaker for Commencement.
On Union's official social media accounts, the top posts by engagement on Facebook and LinkedIn were the announcement of Elizabeth Kiss as president; TikTok was asking faculty “who are you wearing” at Commencement; and Instagram was asking the Class of 2025 what they were doing after graduation.
Stories that originate on Union’s news site are frequently featured in national, international and local media outlets.
In 2025, faculty, students and staff were mentioned in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Time magazine, The Hill and Inside Higher Ed, among others.
Content on the site has been honored by the Council for the Advancement of Secondary Education (CASE).
