Union College President Elizabeth Kiss today announced the appointment of longtime college admissions leader Gregory Sneed as Vice President for Enrollment Management following a national search. Sneed, who has served as Vice Provost for Enrollment Management at the University of Minnesota since August 2024, will join Union in mid-May.
“Greg rose to the top of an extremely competitive field of candidates on the basis of his demonstrated success driving enrollment gains across varying types of institutions,” Kiss said. “Greg’s data-informed approach to enrollment management and extensive experience at liberal arts colleges are ideally suited to helping Union thrive in a challenging national enrollment environment.”
“I am thrilled he has agreed to join our senior leadership team.”
Sneed, who will report to President Kiss, brings more than 20 years of higher education enrollment experience to Union, much of it in leadership positions. At the University of Minnesota, Sneed oversees a large enrollment operation that drove an increase in undergraduate applications this academic year while also improving the academic profile of the incoming freshman class.
“I am honored to join Union at such an important moment,” Sneed said. “From my earliest conversations with campus leadership and community members, I was struck by the college's sense of purpose and care for students. I am grateful for the opportunity to join Union and contribute to a future that is both ambitious and grounded in its values.”
Prior to his current role, Sneed served as Vice President for Enrollment Management at Denison University, a highly ranked liberal arts college in central Ohio, from 2016-2024. During this tenure, Denison tripled its annual student applications and significantly increased the percentage of admitted students who chose Denison, even as the college raised its admissions standards.
As a direct report to the president, he also served as a member of Denison’s executive management group. In that role, he provided leadership and counsel across a range of operational, enrollment and academic initiatives – including the launch of a satellite campus in nearby Columbus, Ohio, the creation of the successful Denison Edge co-curricular educational program and the launch of several new academic majors.
“I am deeply appreciative of the opportunity I have been offered at the University of Minnesota, but my heart is in the liberal arts,” Sneed said. “Union’s commitment to academic excellence, close faculty-student engagement and emphasis on preparing students for meaningful lives profoundly resonates with me.”
Sneed began his career working in the admissions offices at the University of California, Davis and the University of California, San Diego before moving into leadership roles at Claremont McKenna College and Grinnell College.
He earned his undergraduate degree in economics from UC Davis, a master’s degree in education from Harvard and a doctorate in education from the University of Southern California. Sneed and his wife, Sarah, are the parents of a 9-year-old son, William, and twin 7-year-old daughters, Margaret and Catherine.
“This is an important period in Union’s history as we navigate unprecedented challenges in higher education and prepare to embark on a rigorous journey to elevate the academic and residential experience we offer our students,” Kiss said. “Greg’s experience and skillset will be invaluable as we move Union forward.”
