Yifei Guan, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, is co-author of "Online learning of eddy-viscosity and backscattering closures for geophysical turbulence using ensemble Kalman inversion," published in the Physical Review Research. The study is published in an American Physical Society collection highlighting the physics of changing climate. The research develops data-driven and physics-informed approaches for modeling turbulent geophysical flows, combining machine learning with computational fluid dynamics to improve the accuracy and efficiency of climate-related simulations. The work contributes to ongoing efforts to better understand multiscale transport and turbulence in atmospheric and geophysical systems using modern AI-assisted scientific computing methods.

Laini Nemett, the John D. MacArthur Associate Professor of Visual Arts - Painting and Drawing, has a current show at Bernay Fine Art in Great Barrington, Mass. The show, "Nature's Palette," runs through June 7. Nemett will be at the gallery this Saturday, May 30, from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
