Prateek Arora, assistant professor of economics, presented a paper, “Forecasting Inflation in the United States Using Machine Learning: A Disaggregated Approach,” at the 40th Pennsylvania Economic Association Conference held at Indiana University of Pennsylvania on May 30.
Cameron Kay, former visiting assistant professor of psychology, and Mai Tran '26, have published a paper, "Hikikomori and internet addiction in U.S. college students," in the Psi Chi Journal of Psychological Research.
Osamu Miyawaki, assistant professor of geosciences, authored an article in the Journal of the Atmospheric Sciences, “The Non-monotonicity of Moist-Adiabatic Warming." The article explains why warming in the atmosphere does not increase in a simple way as the surface gets hotter. It shows how rising air is shaped by two competing effects: how much water vapor the air contains and how much it cools as it rises and expands.
Kimmo Rosenthal, professor emeritus of mathematics, will have a poem appearing in the next issue of the journal Shot Glass. The poem is a cento inspired by Italo Calvino's "Invisible Cities." Beside Calvino, the other authors represented by lines in the poem are Henri Bosco, Wallace Stevens, Cristina Rivera Garza, Franz Kafka and Gerald Murnane.
