The Electric City Maker Faire returns to Union’s campus Sunday, Oct. 4, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at College Park Hall.
The event is free and open to the public.
Making encourages inventors, designers and tinkerers to use higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills for individual and collaborative project-based learning. This is typically done in shared spaces such as Union's Maker Web using technologies such as 3D printers, laser cutters and desktop machine tools.
As many as 50 exhibitors are expected at this year’s event, including the Innovation Center of Saratoga, the Tech Valley Center of Gravity, Electric City Barn, Ravena Innovation Station, CREATE Studios and the Children's Museum of Saratoga.
The Electric City Maker Faire returns to Union’s campus Sunday, Oct. 4, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at College Park Hall.
The family-friendly event includes food trucks, a DJ, raffles, outdoor activities and games.
Attendees can cast their own aluminum art with Union sculpture faculty or assemble STEAM robotics kits with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. They can also learn to solder with Schenectady High School or see how printing presses work and make their own customized print on a mini laser cut press.
From cutting-edge technologies like digital fabrication and robotics to traditional crafts, analog projects, artwork and science experiments, there is a lot to see and do and learn.
"We are thrilled to be hosting the fourth biennial Electric City Maker Faire," said Cole Belmont, Union’s Makerspace director. "This year's event promises to be the biggest yet and there will be something for everybody as we bring together even more makers, crafters, artists, tinkerers and technologists than ever before to share work, techniques and ideas, host hands-on activities and run demonstrations."
