New York State Writers Institute features President David Harris

President David Harris was recently interviewed by Paul Grondahl, the director of the New York State Writers Institute, for its program The Conversation.

Now in its 36th year, the Writers Institute is one of the nation’s pre-eminent literary presentation organizations. It has hosted a dozen Nobel laureates and highly-acclaimed writers and thought leaders from around the world.

President Harris reflects on race, power and privilege with CBS6

President David R. Harris recently announced a new initiative that will engage the campus community on issues of race and privilege in the country and at Union.

The President’s Initiative on Race, Power and Privilege comes in the wake of nationwide protests sparked by the death last month of George Floyd, an unarmed black man killed by a white police officer in Minneapolis. Protesters have voiced their anger and frustration with systemic racism, police brutality and social inequality and have demanded change.

Harris shared his thoughts on the initiative and current events with Liz Bishop of CBS-6, the local CBS affiliate.

Union professor's research on conspiracy theories featured in media outlets

The COVID-19 pandemic has renewed national media interest in research by Josh Hart, associate professor of psychology, which suggests that people with certain personality traits and cognitive styles are more likely to believe in conspiracy theories.

Discover and Men’s Health magazines highlighted the research, published in September 2018 in the Journal of Individual Differences.

A story on the research first appeared on Union’s news site and has been featured in a number of national and international media outlets.
