The students who helped complete the Malawi Mommy Bag Project are this week’s Kenney Community Center’s volunteers of the week.
The project, which began last year, was inspired by a talk presented during the Presidential Student Forum on Diversity series by Dr. Padmini Murthy, a physician and activist for public health and human rights.
One of the issues she touched on was the lack of basic supplies for new mothers in Malawi, motivating students to hold various fundraisers throughout the year to purchase supplies to send. Their efforts resulted in enough money to make and send 100 bags to women in need.
