Author Adrian Frazier to speak Tuesday

“Speaking Pictures,” a talk by author Adrian Frazier, will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday Oct. 2 in Karp Hall 105.

The event is a launch of "Hat and Key," a limited edition of broadsides with images by Walter Hatke, the May I and Walter C. Baker Professor of Visual Arts Emeritus, and poems by Jordan Smith, the Edward E. Hale Professor of English.

Union faculty, students, alumni attend American Chemical Society meeting

Union College students, faculty and alumni participated in the 256th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society, held in Boston.

Michael Hagerman, professor of chemistry, gave an oral presentation, “Morphology and Conductivity Studies of Laponite/Single-Walled Carbon Nanotube Nanonetworks,” in the session on Environmental and Energy-Related Inorganic Chemistry.

Evolution of the smart grid is topic of Steinmetz lecture

Anjan Bose, an expert on power grid control and a renowned researcher in electrical power engineering, will deliver the 74th Steinmetz Memorial Lecture on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m. in the Nott Memorial.

His talk, “The Evolution of the Smart Grid from Edison to Steinmetz,” is free and open to the public.

Hundreds of students to help beautify Schenectady and region Saturday

More than 400 students will help spruce up the city and surrounding area throughout the day Saturday, Sept. 29, for the 24th annual John Calvin Toll Day.

Volunteers will clean up parks, public spaces and provide other help as needed. Activities will take place at various times between 10:45 a.m. and 3 p.m.
