Princeton professor named Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar

The College will be hosting Janet Currie, the Henry Putnam Professor of Economics and Public Affairs at Princeton University and director of its Center for Health and Wellbeing, as the 2012 Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar.

Currie directs the Program on Children at the National Bureau of Economic Research and is a senior research affiliate at the National Poverty Center of the University of Michigan. Her past teaching credentials also include Columbia University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of California at Los Angeles.

Focusing on children’s health and well-being, she studies the socioeconomic differences in child health and environmental threats to children’s health. In 2010, Currie was elected vice president of the American Economic Association and also serves as the editor of the Journal of Economic Literature.

A detailed schedule of Currie’s visit will be available soon. Her first lecture is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 24.
