This week’s Kenney Community Center Volunteers of the Week are the sisters of the Alpha Delta Lambda (ADL) sorority.
Founded in 2010, Alpha Delta Lambda is a local, philanthropy-based organization. With 46 current members, ADL has assisted with and donated to annual events such as Take Back the Night, Zumba-Thon and Empty Bowls, as well as fundraisers benefiting the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, the Women’s Heart Association and the African Well Fund.
“We are a varied sorority in regards to interests, personalities and passions, but our one commonality is our selfless and enthusiastic goal of bettering Union, bettering Schenectady, bettering New York, our country and the world,” said Kylie Gorski ’16, one of ADL’s Philanthropy Chairs.
ADL also maintains active relationships with other philanthropic organizations on campus, such as Campus Kitchens and Student Allies for Equality. This year, sorority sisters helped direct and encourage the Schenectady Pride Walk and lent their support on John Calvin Toll Day. They have made generous donations to C.O.C.O.A House, March of Dimes and the Lambda Pi Chi Domestic Violence Banquet.
This year, ADL plans to participate in the Vascular Birthmarks Foundation Family Fun Day, which raises funds to promote research and education about the treatment of vascular birthmarks, as well as No-Sew blanket making for the Schenectady City Mission.
