Ann M. Anderson, the Agnes S. MacDonald Professor of Mechanical Engineering; and Mary K. Carroll ’86, the Dwane W. Crichton Professor of Chemistry, participated in the Sixth International Seminar on Aerogels at Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) in Germany, September 28-30, 2022. They gave three presentations. The first, an oral presentation, titled “PGM-Nanoparticle-Containing Alumina Aerogels for Three-Way Catalyst Application,” was co-authored by Professor of Mechanical Engineering Bradford Bruno, Joana Santos ’20 (a graduate student in mechanical engineering at Stanford University) and Patrick Barry ’22 (a graduate student in chemistry at Stony Brook University). The second was a poster on “Combined Diffusion Limited Cluster Aggregation/Lattice Boltzmann Model for Simulating the Catalytic Behavior of Aerogel Materials,” co-authored by Andrew Cahaly ’22 (a graduate student in mechanical engineering at Cornell University) and Prof. Bruno. The third, with co-authors from Professor Anderson’s and Carroll's ongoing collaboration with researchers at the University of Perugia (Italy) and Sapienza University of Rome (Italy), was a poster on “Long-term performance of monolithic silica aerogel with different hydrophobicities: color rendering and physical properties after accelerated ageing.”
