Scott D. Kirkton, professor of Biological Sciences, attended the American Physiological Summit in Baltimore last month. It is the annual meeting of the American Physiological Society. He was an invited speaker that introduced the August Krogh Distinguished Lecturer and made a presentation to the membership about how to become a Fellow of the Society.

At the meeting, Kirkton was appointed to a three-year position for the APS’ Center for Physiology Education. The Center “is committed to nurturing and promoting excellence in the teaching and learning of physiology and providing solutions for physiology educators.”

Kirkton was also recently named an Associate Editor of the American Journal of Physiology – Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology. The journal publishes original investigations that explore the integration of physiological mechanisms ranging from molecules to humans, including clinical investigations.

Therese McCarty, John Prior Lewis Class of '41 Professor of Economics Emerita, has published an interview article entitled, "A 'Win-Win': Broader Access for Veterans in Higher Education" in the Journal of Veterans Studies (2025). The article recounts an interview with Catharine Bond Hill, former President of Vassar College, along with two of her colleagues, Emily Schwartz and Michael Fried, in which they discuss efforts to increase veterans' enrollment in high-graduation-rate colleges and universities.
