Near Miss Reporting

A near-miss is a potential hazard or incident in which no personal injury was sustained and/or no property was damaged, but where given, a slight change in time or position, injury or damage could have easily occurred. Near misses are also known as close calls, near accidents or injury-free events.

To ensure a safe working & learning environment at Union College, all students and employees should report a near-miss incident as soon as possible. You can report a near-miss anonymously, if you wish. If you choose to include your name, you may be contacted by Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) for follow up information.

All near-miss incidents reports will be investigated EHS, which will include a site inspection, possible interviews and recommendations/steps to take to prevent a similar event. All findings will be reviewed with the Department Supervisor or Chair.
