Union College, chartered in 1795, is among the oldest schools in the nation. We started teaching engineering in 1845, and we were the first liberal arts college in the country to offer engineering.
Established in 2008, the Robert E. Martinson '65 Engineering and Liberal Education (ELE) Symposium brings together faculty, students, and administrators from across the United States and beyond to explore the benefits and challenges of a close partnership between engineering education and a liberal education.
This year’s symposium, co-sponsored and organized by the Templeton Institute, will be held in person in an intimate setting on our beautiful campus in Upstate New York. The symposium dates are September 12 and 13, 2025. Registration is free and includes all meals. Space is limited, and we encourage you to register early. The deadline for abstract submissions is June 15, 2025.
Sponsored by the Feigenbaum Forum on Innovation and Creativity, the keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Sian Leo Proctor, a renowned geoscientist, artist, astronaut, and visionary futurist whose work explores the intersections of the humanities, arts, sciences, and engineering.
