Hatley Awarded NSF Grant to Support the Upstate New York Number Theory Conference

Publication Date

Assistant Professor of Mathematics Jeffrey Hatley was awarded a National Science Foundation (NSF) Division of Mathematical Sciences (DMS) conference grant (Award 1901866) to support the Upstate New York Number Theory Conference series.

The conference series will integrate several isolated specialists in the region and create an environment that stimulates collaborations and new directions for future work, while at the same time strengthening ties between researchers in Upstate New York and number theory mathematical centers in Boston, Montreal, and New York City.

Throughout the conference series, graduate students and postdoctoral scholars will be exposed to the work of leading experts, will communicate their own research and research interests, will disseminate their ideas to a larger audience, and will interact with experts, their peers, and young people from nearby institutions.

The conference will be hosted by Cornell University in 2019 and University of Rochester in 2020 before it is held at Union College in 2021. It is expected that future conferences will be hosted by Binghamton University and the University at Buffalo. Daemen College is an active participant in conference preparation.
