Dear members of the Union family,
What a night! On Friday evening, Union College made history with the formal launch of Powering Union: The Campaign for Multiple Tomorrows. The College's most ambitious fundraising effort, this $300 million campaign will move our strategic plan forward, taking us to new heights, ensuring our long-term strength and fundamentally enhancing the student experience. The campaign will focus on four priorities: Ensuring Access, Propelling the Liberal Arts and Engineering, Developing Students Beyond The Classroom and the Union Fund.
Memorial Fieldhouse was completely transformed for this festive kickoff. The celebration included over 800 attendees; 100+ student performers from all majors; over 50 student and faculty presenters; hundreds of Union hats given away; and a wide array of food from mac and cheese to sushi provided by ten local restaurants and Union Hospitality.
One of the most powerful moments of the evening was a surprise appearance by Mary '80 and Richard '80 Templeton who traveled from Texas to announce an extraordinary campaign commitment of $51 million, the largest single gift in the College's history. Their vision and generosity will transform engineering and the liberal arts through the creation of the Templeton Institute for Engineering and Computer Science. Their gift, along with many others for scholarships, professorships, academic programs, immersive experiences, the first-year experience and The Union Fund brought our total raised to date to $221 million.
