The Shui Kong Yuen Collection is now in ARCHES

Publication Date

Union College’s Schaffer Library is pleased to announce that the Shui Kong Yuen Collection is now available for public viewing in ARCHES. A member of the Union College Class of 1942, Yuen earned a reputation during his tenure as the college's "unofficial photographer."

The digital collection features the extensive array of loose photographs and curated scrapbooks, all captured through Yuen’s lens. These works offer a glimpse into iconic campus life, alongside notable excursions such as the 1939–1940 New York World’s Fair.

The debut of this collection coincides with the current physical exhibition in Beuth Atrium, “Beyond the Archive: Rediscovering the Art of Shui Kong Yuen.” The exhibition was curated by Jane Mae Schreiner ’26, who conducted extensive research on Yuen’s photography during her time as a Ruth Anne Evans Fellow with Special Collections this past summer. The digital collection was made possible by the Digital Projects and Special Collections divisions of the library.
