Jeff Corbin, professor of biology, was one of 14 co-authors of a new paper, "Naturalized species drive functional trait shifts in plant communities," in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Working with data from over 75,000 plots in North America, the team found that species invasions impact the functional composition of communities in ways that change ecosystem-level productivity and nutrient cycling.
Ann M. Anderson, the Agnes S. MacDonald Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Bradford A. Bruno, professor of mechanical engineering, and Mary K. Carroll '86, the Dwane W. Crichton Professor of Chemistry, attended the 7th International Seminar on Aerogels, held at the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) in Germany, October 18-20, 2024.
Anderson and Carroll presented two posters:
- "Hydrophobic Aerogel Composite Films for Drag Reduction," co-authored by recent BSME graduates Meredith Blinn '24 and Shane Fuhrey '24 and Ali M. Hamed, associate professor of mechanical engineering and Thomas J. Watson Sr. and Emma Watson Day Department Chair.
- "Facilitating Student Involvement in an International Collaboration on Aerogels," co-authored by Professor Cinzia Buratti, Professor Elisa Belloni and Dr. Francesca Merli of the University of Perugia, Italy.
Bruno gave an oral presentation titled "Comparative Performance of PGM-Nanoparticle-Doped Alumina Xerogels and Aerogels for Three-Way Catalyst Applications," with Anderson, Carroll and recent BSME graduate Anna Hoffmann '23 as co-authors.
