D. Catherine Walker, associate professor of psychology, and student co-authors Mai P. N. Tran '26, Lauren Leavitt '26, and Dena Contreras '25, published the paper "Assessing the Usability, Feasibility, and Engagement in IM FAB, a Functionality-Focused Micro-Intervention to Reduce Eating Disorder Risk" in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health.
Jennifer Fredricks, professor of psychology, gave the keynote at the fall conference of the Advanced Placement Teacher Investment Program at the University of Notre Dame. This program works with math, science, and English advanced and dual placement teachers in Indiana. The title of her talk was, "Student Engagement: How Can I Increase it in My Classroom."
Faculty and students from the geosciences department presented their research at the Geological Society of America (GSA) annual meeting in San Antonio, Texas from Oct 19-22. Eamonn Sheedy '26 presented his research on comparing the mineral chemistry of effusive and explosive lava domes on St. Vincent and Amelia Casassa '26 and Sienna Chambial '27 presented their research on the use of soil spectroscopy to predict arsenic contamination of rice in Cambodia. Geoscience faculty Holli Frey and Mason Stahl were also in attendance. In addition to supervising Eamonn's work, Holli Frey co-authored a paper on oxidation in magmas based on research on South Sister volcano, Oregon. Mason Stahl presented his research on the role of rice field hydrology on arsenic uptake into rice and he also co-chaired a session on the use of machine learning approaches in hydrology. The presented research included as coauthors Union geoscience and environmental science alumni Keith Lawless and Devin Snyder. Union geoscience alumni Rachel Bryan and Olivia Thurston also presented their current research.
