Where to Find Us
The Writing Center is located on the second floor of Schaffer Library, Rooms 226 & 227. Please make an appointment online, and meet your writing mentor in Room 226.
Hours Of Operation
The Writing Center is open by appointment only, during the term Sunday through Thursday, 3-11pm. We are closed on Friday and Saturday. The Writing Center typically opens during the first week of classes. Because we are staffed by students the Writing Center is closed during breaks, when classes are not in session. If you have questions, please contact us!
What To Bring
Please bring to your conference a copy of the assignment sheet, or writing prompt, for the project that you're working on. If you have a draft, notes, or anything written prior to your conference, you can share this work with us by using the file attachment function at the bottom of the appointment form in our scheduling software, WCOnline. The writing mentor whom you've signed up to meet with will review your draft, notes, or assignment sheet before your conference.
If you prefer to work with hard copies, be sure to bring your assignment sheet or writing prompt, along with your draft, notes, or anything you've written so far in hard copy form. We're happy to work with good old-fashioned pencil and paper! Otherwise, bring your laptop, tablet, or whatever technology you use for writing!
Some students come to the Writing Center before they have written anything, so they can talk through ideas before getting started with writing. That’s fine too! Just bring your notes, doodles, textbooks, whatever materials are needed for your writing project.
There’s no limit to the amount of times you can visit the Writing Center for a single writing assignment. We just ask that you come early in your writing process (not just a day or few hours before your deadline). And we suggest that you come as often as you can, so you can get to work in the Writing Center!
