Environmental Engineering
Minor, Major (Fall 2023)

This major is only available to students who matriculate in Fall 2023 or later.
The Civil and Environmental Engineering curriculum will be introduced one year at a time as we hire faculty and build the new department. In 2023-2024, the first-year curriculum will be offered. In 2024-2025, the first and second years of the curriculum will be offered. In 2025-2026, the first three years of the curriculum will be offered. And, in 2026-2027, the full four years of the curriculum will be offered.
This means that current students entering the college before Fall 2023 will not be able to complete the program of either major in four years' time. The first class of matriculating students who will be able to complete either major in a standard four-year time frame will be the Class of 2027.
Please note that a minor in Environmental Engineering continues to be available to Union students.
The Union College Environmental Engineering program is for students who are interested in the engineering and technical aspects of environmental issues.
You will learn about the environmental issues involved in designing energy, water supply, wastewater, housing and infrastructure systems. Your work in this area may include courses on energy, water resources, hydrology, waste management and recycling, sustainable infrastructure, engineering economics and environmentally friendly buildings.
Environmental engineering professionals work in air and water pollution control, public health, recycling and other areas, with private industry, government agencies or not-for-profit organizations.
