Geosciences Department
All geoscience majors should support, and benefit from, professional organizations in their field. Basic memberships give you a regular journal subscription (such as GSA Today or Eos), and discounts on other publications and meetings. The journals contain research articles in addition to information on graduate schools, jobs, internships, and the state and new directions of the profession. There are many societies to join, but we suggest the following:
- Geological Society of America All geoscience majors.
- American Geophysical Union All geoscience majors.
- National Association of Geoscience Teachers Geoscience majors with any interest in post-graduate teaching opportunities.
Here is a complete listing of professional geoscience organizations. Most of these organizations have on-line registration. Student dues are usually quite low, in some cases $20 or less for the year.
