International Advising

Maintaining Full-Time Enrollment & Changes to Your Program

F-1 students are generally required to maintain a full-time course load each term. If you need to take fewer than the required number of credits, take a leave of absence, or need additional time to complete your program, you must connect with your Academic Advisor and International Advising to understand how the change may affect your immigration status before taking action.

Do not drop a course, withdraw from courses, take a leave, or make changes that could affect your enrollment without first consulting International Advising. Failing to obtain the required authorizations can result in a violation of your F-1 status and may affect your ability to remain in the United States or receive future immigration benefits.
