The Manhattan Saxophone Quartet will be in residence at Union this week, offering two performances that showcases the saxophone in jazz and classical settings.

On Sunday, Feb. 11 at 3 p.m., MSQ will explore the jazz-influenced side of the saxophone quartet repertoire, offering works by Paquito D'Rivera, Astor Piazzolla, and Jennifer Higdon, in addition to joining forces with the Union College Jazz Ensemble for music by Don Menza and Thad Jones, as well as Jimmy Giuffre's classic Four Brothers.

On Monday, Feb. 12 at 1 p.m., MSQ celebrates the music of our time, performing works by David Froom, Nils Vigeland, and Union faculty composer Hilary Tann. Following this performance, MSQ will host a Q&A session with audience members.

Both performances take place in the Emerson Auditorium in the Taylor Music Center and are offered free of charge.

Formed in 2008 at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City, the group has made a name for itself through its thrilling presentation of 150 years of sax repertoire, including many premiere performances at venues such as Lincoln Center, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Symphony Space, the DiMenna Center and more.
Its members include Jordan Smith, Aaron Patterson, Daniel Kochersberger and Jay Rattman. Learn more about them on their website.
