When anyone inside or outside the Union community misrepresents faculty work, maligns faculty identities or perspectives, libels or slanders a faculty member, or threatens individuals for protected exercise of their academic freedom, this disrupts the free exchange of ideas to which we are dedicated. Whether such an attack occurs on social media or elsewhere, faculty members have recourse and access to support.
- If a threat has been made against you, your family, or members of the Union community, please contact the Director of Campus Safety immediately.
- If a threat involves a security breach, a ransomware attack, or other actions jeopardizing the privacy of information, please contact the Director of Information Technology Services.
- If you believe there may have been a violation of the College’s Policy Prohibiting Discrimination, Harassment, Bias and Retaliation in Employment, please contact the Title IX Coordinator.
- Contact the Dean of Faculty (dof@union.edu) for support and counsel. The Dean of Faculty can help convene a group to support you and answer your questions.
Every situation is unique, especially with respect to its origin and possible duration. However, whatever the context, please know that you have a network of support.
If you have a friend or colleague who is being targeted, please know that the team above is actively supporting them, though that intentionally may not be publicly visible. Please reach out to one of the above people if you have questions about support. We ask for your help in respecting your colleague's safety and privacy, by refraining from online, classroom, or public discussion of the situation. If the situation is impacting the mental health of students you know, please point them to the resources available at Wicker Wellness Center.
