If you have been accepted for transfer admission to Union College and currently hold F-1 student status at another U.S. college or university, you will need to have your SEVIS record transferred to Union College.
After accepting your admission to Union, complete the required incoming student steps, which you will receive via email from International Advising, including the I-20 Application Form. A Google Drive Folder will be created for you which will only be accessible through your Union email account. This is where you will submit any required documentation, including a copy of your passport, proof of funding documentation, etc.
Transferring to Union College
Step 1: Complete Union's incoming student requirements
Step 2: Request a SEVIS transfer from your current school
You must work with the international student advisor or designated school official (PDSO/DSO) at your current institution to request that your SEVIS record be transferred to Union College. Union cannot issue your Form I-20 until your transfer is initiated and we receive your SEVIS record.
Union College's SEVIS school code is: BUF214F10383000
You should discuss your transfer plans with your current international student advisor as early as possible. Your current school will determine your SEVIS transfer date and will release your SEVIS record to Union electronically.
Step 3: Complete your Union I-20 process
Once your SEVIS record has been released to Union and you have completed all required incoming student steps, Union will be able to complete the process of issuing your Union Form I-20.
You should not enter the United States using your previous school's I-20 after your SEVIS record has been transferred to Union. If you have questions about your travel plans or immigration documents during the transfer process, contact International Advising before making travel arrangements.
Academic Considerations
Transferring institutions may affect your expected graduation timeline. Your Class Dean and the Dean of Studies can help you determine how your previously completed coursework and credits will apply toward your Union degree requirements.
Students should work with their Class Dean, the Dean of Studies, and International Advising to understand how transferred credits may affect their academic plan, expected graduation date, and immigration status.
If transferring to Union means that you will need additional time to complete your degree beyond the program end date listed on your I-20, contact International Advising to request a program extension as soon as possible.
