If you are considering transferring from Union College to another college or university, begin by discussing your plans with your Class Dean. Your Class Dean can help you understand how transferring may affect your academic progress, degree requirements, and other academic considerations.
Transferring from Union College
Step 1: Meet with your Class Dean
Before making arrangements to transfer, meet with your class dean to discuss your plans.
Students should also review Union's policies regarding leaves of absence and academic standing.
Step 2: Complete Union’s transfer-out process
Once you have been admitted to another institution and solidified your plans to transfer, you must request that your SEVIS record be transferred to that institution by submitting the I-20/SEVIS Transfer Release Form. You will need to provide information about your new school, including its SEVIS school code and the requested SEVIS transfer date. You should submit the form only after you have been accepted by your new institution and have confirmed the appropriate transfer information with your new school's international student office.
Step 3: Union transfers your SEVIS record
After your transfer-out request has been reviewed and approved, Union's International Advising office will transfer your SEVIS record to your new institution on the agreed-upon transfer release date. Once the transfer is completed, your new institution will be responsible for issuing your new Form I-20 and providing immigration advising for your continued F-1 status. You should communicate with both Union and your new institution throughout the process to make sure that your transfer occurs without interruption to your immigration status.
