It’s unusually quiet on campus as another academic year winds down. The day before, 350 graduating seniors and their families filled the College grounds for Union’s 176th Commencement.

Biology professor awarded NSF research grant

Roman Yukilevich, assistant professor of biology, has been awarded an Evolutionary Ecology grant from the National Science Foundation.

The $103,562 grant will be used for his collaborative project with a faculty researcher at Williams College, “Phenotypic and genomic patterns of divergence across a young Drosophila species complex.”

Focusing on fruit flies, the study aims to advance the understanding of the process of speciation, the splitting of one species into two.

The Union College Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) recently competed in the 19th annual STEP Statewide Science Conference, celebrating 30 years of the program.

Art installation series features Afrofuturist

Artist Stacey Robinson, whose work focuses on ideas of “Black Utopias” as spaces of peace away from colonial influence, is the fifth artist featured in the College’s Art Installation Series.

He will mount his exhibition, Branding the AfroFuture, an amalgam of posters, branding, comics and other graphic matter, in the Schaffer Library Learning Commons Monday, March 27 through Thursday, March 30, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
