End of an era: Former Phi Delta Theta House set to be demolished

The former Phi Delta Theta House, one of the most iconic buildings on campus, will be torn down after years of being plagued by structural and mechanical issues. Built in 1914 at a cost of $17,000, the house overlooking the 50-yard line at Frank Bailey Field has been largely vacant since 2012 after the chimney collapsed and the boiler malfunctioned.

Summer research a hot topic across disciplines at Union

On a hot, sticky morning, Zaid Fafouri ’26 and Austin Gregory ’25 took turns kicking soccer balls into a net at Garis Field. Over the course of two hours, they would repeat this routine hundreds of times. Thud. Thud. Thud. Crouched safely behind the net, Nguyen Ho ’26 collected data into her laptop from a series of sensors attached to the netting. Each shot generates 1,800 pieces of data. After the final kick, they will retreat to a lab to analyze the data

Mailing it in: Student mailboxes disappear as packages replace letters from home

As a result, a growing number of colleges and universities have eliminated the rows of mailboxes to free up much-needed space for the hundreds of packages delivered to campus daily. This week, Union became the latest to focus on packages when workers from the Facilities Department began disassembling the 2,300 aluminum mailboxes in the Reamer Campus Center that have brought joy (and maybe a bill or two) to thousands of students over the decades.
