Arnold I. Bittleman Memorial Prize
Awarded to a student whose work, in the judgment of the arts faculty in collaboration with an outside juror, is outstanding. Established to honor Professor Arnold I. Bittleman, an artist and teacher whose accomplishments in drawing commanded international admiration.

Sailha Nazir, '23 was awarded the Bittleman Memorial Prize in 2022. Her submission portfolio was on display in the Wold Student Art Gallery (a newly named space in the Wold Lobby, by Olin doors) during the spring 2022 term.

Says Nazir: "These paintings, drawings, and etchings are the result of three years of study in the

Visual Arts Department. I used the self-portraits here simply as a means of experimenting with different techniques and media. These include palette knife painting, paint scratching, aquatint, maybe some finger painting, and even using an impression of a flattened shield bug. In all of these works, I tried to push outside my comfort zone and try something new. Each one of these pieces is an experiment."
