Congratulations on Graduating!
For June 2019 Graduates: Your Union College email account will be disabled effective June 30, 2020. After that date, the accounts will be locked and scheduled for removal.
If you are not returning to Union College, you should begin moving your email to a new account immediately upon graduation. Do not apply for employment or graduate school using your current Union College email address.
The Office of Alumni & Parent Engagement is pleased to offer you use of a full suite of Google products including an alumni Gmail account with your same union.edu username name (email address).
This account will be activated this week and instructions to login and begin using this account will be sent to you this week. Look for the email with a subject line that reads "Your new alumni.union.edu webmail account".

In general, you have two options available to you with respect to keeping the email from your Union College email account.
- You may move your email from your Union College email account to a mail client such as Outlook Express (PC) or Mac Mail (Macintosh). This will allow you to keep all of your email, but you will not be able to continue using the mail client after June 30, 2020.
- You may transfer the email in your Union College email account to a personal Gmail account. The personal Gmail account will be available after June 30, 2020 when the Union College email account is disabled.
Option 1: Using a Mail Client with Union College Email
Google Apps provides instructions on how to configure an email client such as Outlook Express or Mac Mail to work with Union College email. Please follow the instructions at the link below for detailed information.

In the configuration instructions, when asked for “Account Name” and “Email Address”, enter your Union College Email address in the form firstname.lastname@example.org
NOTE: This will allow you to keep existing email and any mail received up until June 30, 2020 in the email client. You will not be able to send or receive email with your Union College email account after June 30, 2020.
Option 2: Transferring to another Gmail Account
Navigate to the following URL:
Select “Learn More” on the first paragraph which talks about Less Secure Apps.
Follow the steps in Option 2 under Change Account Access for less secure apps by:
Login to your Union College email account.
Click on your username icon in the upper right corner.
Select “My Account”
Select “Connected apps & sites” under “Sign-in and Security”.
Slide to turn on “Allow Less Secure Apps”
Logout of the Union email.
Login to your personal Gmail account (NOT the Union College email account)
Click on the Options “gear” in the upper right hand corner of the page and select “Settings”
Select the “Accounts & imports” tab
Next to “Check mail from other accounts”, Select “Add a mail account”.
Enter your complete email address: Userid@union.edu and select Next
Select "Import emails from my other account (POP3)"
Enter your complete email@example.com email address and password.
For POP server, enter: pop.gmail.com
Change Port to 995.
Put a checkmark next to Use SSL
Choose label of incoming messages.
Select "emails Archive incoming messages (skip the inbox)"
Select “Add Account”
Select “NO” when asked if you want to send email as union.edu
NOTE: This will allow you to move existing email to your personal Gmail account. Your Union College email account will stop receiving email after June 30, 2020.
NOTE: The messages will begin to transfer, however this may take some time to complete, depending on the amount of email that you have.
