Curricular Practical Training (CPT) allows eligible F-1 students to participate in practical training, such as an internship or other employment opportunity, that is directly related to their major and integral to their curriculum. CPT takes place while a student is actively enrolled in their academic program and must be authorized by International Advising before the student begins working.
If You Are Considering CPT…
Attend a CPT Workshop hosted by International Advising
Confirm that you are eligible for CPT
Find an appropriate practical training opportunity
Make sure that the opportunity is directly related to your major
Complete the required CPT Application Form and academic requirements.
Receive a CPT-authorized Form I-20 from International Advising after submitting your application (5-7 business days)
Begin working only during the dates and under the conditions authorized on your Form I-20
You may not begin CPT until you have received authorization from International Advising and your CPT I-20.
